Over the last few months fans of the 90’s R&B group Xscape have been waiting in excitement over the announcement of a reunion tour. Most fans have been keeping up with members Kandi and Tiny through their respective reality TV shows. Coming out of the ATL, Kandi, Tiny, LaTocha and Tamika had a style all their own.
Fans got a glimpse of what they could expect from the group at a recent appearance at the 2017 BET Awards. With tour stops being announced at a rapid pace, the 4th of July weekend turned out to be a pretty busy for these ladies as they performed at the 2017 Essence Music Fest on July 2nd before heading to my hometown of Detroit, MI for not one but two sold out shows on July 3rd and 4th. As I’m writing this blog post at 10pm Tuesday night, Xscape is probably rocking the Chene Park crowd right now.
I photographed the show last night and it was packed. There was a lot of activity in and around the venue because Real Housewives of Atlanta were taping footage of the concert and everything leading up to it. It was kind of cool looking in the audience and seeing Todd Tucker, Momma Joyce and Don Juan supporting Kandi and crew.
With opening performances by Total and Next, the crowd was well primed for the main attraction. Xscape took us for a ride down memory lane and it felt good. There was laughter and tears, but all in all the ladies of Xscape put on a show for Detroit fans! As they closed out their set they were awarded the Spirit of Detroit award by city council woman Brenda Jones and Chene Park CEO Shahida Mausi.
